Black History Month Observed in Yaounde, Cameroon

The celebration of Black History Month ended on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 yesterday in Yaoundé at the Quartier Mozart, with a conference on the theme "Connecting African Americans to Africans". The speakers Pr Anita M. DIOP, Executive Director of the African Roots and Heritage Foundation and Pr Gérard-Marie MESSINA, Board of Directors, and Executive Director of the Laboratory of Political Semiology, Anthropology of the Imaginary and History of African Civilizations, held the audience spellbound for 2 hours and 30 minutes. A warm and impactful audience made up of university teachers from various disciplines (political philosophers, historians, semiologists, politicians, etc.), film and media professionals in general, as well as many students from the University of Yaoundé I, the University of Yaoundé II (IRIC) and the Catholic University of Central Africa. After the lively testimony of Pr Anita M. DIOP about her call for reconnection with Africa, the vision and missions of the ARHF were presented in detail as well as the mechanisms for joining the Foundation. Several questions were asked regarding the operationality of the effective return of African-Americans to African soil. The related responses were an opportunity to present the strategies and the originality of the Foundation's approach, which intends to place particular emphasis on the cultural variable before addressing the political variable. Our account of the exchanges with African Americans during the conferences we hosted in the United States of America during the first half of February seems to have enlightened the audience in view of the reactions received. For the first time in Cameroon, Black History Month was celebrated. The harvest is plentiful but there are still few workers. Highly anticipated, you are. All the more so that we will no longer wait for February just to act.

Le Mois de l'histoire des Noirs est observé au Cameroun

La célébration du Black History Months' est clôturée, mardi le 28 février 2023 hier à Yaoundé au Quartier Mozart, par une conférence sur le thème "Connecting African Americans to Africans". Les conférenciers Pr Anita M. DIOP, Directeur Exécutif de l'African Roots and Heritage Foundation et le Pr Gérard-Marie MESSINA, Board of Directors, et Directeur Exécutif du Laboratoire de Sémiologie Politique, d'Anthropologie de l'Imaginaire et d'Histoire des Civilisations Africaines, ont tenu le public en haleine pendant 2 heures et 30mn. Un public chaleureux et percutant composé d'enseignants d'universités de disciplines variées ( philosophes politiques, historiens, sémiologues, politiques...), de professionnels du cinéma et des médias en général, ainsi que de nombreux étudiants venus de l'Université de Yaoundé I, de l'Université de Yaoundé II (IRIC) et de l'Université Catholique d'Afrique Centrale. Après le vribant témoignage du Pr Anita M. DIOP au sujet de son appel pour la reconnexion avec l'Afrique, la vision et les missions de l'ARHF ont été présentées de manière détaillée ainsi que les mécanismes d'adhésion à la Fondation. Plusieurs questions ont été posées relativement à l'opérationnalité du retour effectif des Africains-Américains en terre africaine. Les réponses y afférentes ont été l'occasion de présenter les stratégies et l'originalité de la démarche de la Fondation qui entend mettre un accent particulier sur la variable culture avant d'adresser la variable politique. Notre rendu des échanges avec les Africains Américains lors des conférences que nous avons animées aux États-Unis d'Amérique au cours de la première moitié du mois de février semble avoir bien édifié l'auditoire au regard des réactions reçues. Pour la première fois au Cameroun, le Black History Month s'est célébré. La moisson est abondante mais il y a encore peu d'ouvriers. Très attendus, vous êtes. Ce d'autant plus nous n'attendrons plus février uniquement pour agir.
