Understand the World from a New African Thought - informed Perspective

New African Thought (NAT) is for anyone interested in how histories and ideas related to Africa, African authenticity, and race have shaped our world. It is for people who want to make sense of reality from the perspective of and wisdom of ancients in all the information that we have gained from African-descended thinkers, experiences, heritages and cultures. Our core battery of courses in NAT theory, history, and literature provides a foundation for processing contemporary events and historical formations

from the NAT perspective.

Connect and Critique Various Forms of Inequality

Achieve Your Personal, Professional, and Academic Goals

With new capstone options, qualified NATYTI students can engage in learning experiences, coupled with field research that bolster their preparation for graduate school, deepen their understanding of social problems, and practice skills that will make them more marketable in the professional world.

The major in New African Thought aims to develop critical intellectual skills and the art of negotiating successfully when seated at the table. If we look around the world it’s clear that history has value, even to those who don’t value it. What is the untapped value of New African Thought? We think those who study New African Thought are more likely to have a better understanding of society and how to successfully operate within it. We also, think those who study New African Thought gain a better understanding of other world cultures and how to handle international relations.

We think those who study New African Thought are better equipped to combat lies, of which there are many myths, misconceptions and lies about Africa and its people. Those who study New African Thought must develop various skills that have other uses such as economics, mathematics, diplomacy, public speaking, medicine, engineering, geography, law-making, and critical thinking.

Those who study New African Thought are better equipped to become the content creators, tv producers, film producers, writers, journalists and game programmers of tomorrow.

We think those who study New African Thought will know their own self-value and see the Atlantic slave trade and colonialism as just a detour during a timeline of continuous world class contributions from Africans and the Diaspora.
